POTENTIALLY NEW DEMOCRAT VOTERS
By Phil Kent
A prime goal of the Democratic Party is to consolidate its electoral gains and drive the Republican Party into permanent minority status even in the face of an unpopular Barack Obama agenda ranging from socialized healthcare to weak border enforcement. An effective approach to accomplish this is through the manipulation of the electoral process, and the left-wing politicians, activists and organizations that drive the Democratic agenda are working overtime on this strategy.
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., hope to pass legislation that will basically result in universal voter registration. Their legislation would allow left-wing community groups like Acorn, as well as radical ethnic special interests, to register and then vote targeted minorities multiple times. If their bill were to become law, it would remove enough restrictions so that Democrat constituencies could get away with voting more than once and, as a bonus, allow millions of uneducated illegal aliens susceptible to promises of welfare to cast ballots for Democratic candidates.
If voter identification and citizen requirement laws at the state level are loosened or abolished by Congress, Democratic vote totals could only go upward.
Schumer, Frank & Co. further seek to give hundreds of thousands of convicted felons the right to vote. (In many states, a convicted felon must petition a court or the state to get these privileges restored— and most don’t get them back unless permissive judges are involved.) Indeed, the fact that many leftists want murderers, rapists, armed robbers and other convicted criminals to make judgment calls on voting for candidates at the local, state and federal level offers an instructive insight into their warped mindset. The votes of solid law-abiding citizens, essentially, are to be cancelled by the scum of society.
A 2005 Public Opinion Strategies poll surveyed felons who had their voting rights restored, as well as non-felons who voted in Washington state. Even after accounting for the voters’ race, gender, education level, religious habits, employment, age and county of residence, the book “Freedomnomics” found that “felons were 36 percent more likely than non-felons with the same characteristics to have voted for (Democrat John) Kerry over (Republican George W.) Bush, and 37 percent more likely to be registered Democratic.”
Most Democrats and the ultraliberal American Civil Liberties Union oppose laws requiring strict identification before voting at polling places. The Obama Justice Department, for example, is currently fighting in court a Georgia law requiring proof of citizenship and well as a photo ID for voters. Barack Obama could not care less that over 100 countries require voter ID in their electoral process. Even Mexico insists on photo identification to cast a ballot in their elections— prompting The Washington Times to wryly note that “if Democrats have their way, it will be easier for Mexicans to vote in America than in their own country.”
With Middle American voters becoming more upset with the ruling Democrats’ high-taxing, big-spending, job-killing policies – and thus deserting liberal Democratic candidates at election time– no wonder Schumer, Frank and other Democrats hope to give millions of criminals and illegal aliens the opportunity to vote for them.
